“In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.” — John Muir
It’s often those moments when we journey out that we happen upon unexpected places and discoveries. It was on one of these days, whilst chasing the fading light on a cold winters day, that a new area spoke to me from the distance. An outcrop of stone reflected the light of the sun, almost like a beacon, enticing me to wonder closer.
Chasing this feeling, I drove up a steep narrow lane in search of that spot. Upon reaching the area, I was struck by how time had passed and how this once industrial landscape used to be.
In search of a composition, I stumbled upon an old red brick building where nature was regaining its hold. Stories of the past remained in these derelict ruins. The dilapidated walls carried echoes of the past and the faded bricks caught the dying light.
It was a cold, harsh windy day and although I tried to capture this, in the moment, it wasn’t entirely clear how I’d convey this. However, during the edit, I was overcome by a sense of something shifting, changing in a way. It was as if something was forming from the decay. This got to me and it’s not something I’ve experienced before. I wanted to express that in this set.
To celebrate this series of images and the stories, I’ve put together a special edition photo book. It features 20 images from the collection, presented in a premium, limited-edition format.
